Use the wording of the question to help you form a sentence starter. Make sure you are writing in complete sentences!
Cite Evidence
Find a quote from the text. Your quote should act as proof of the theme you stated. Make sure you follow the formula we went over in class: Signal Phrase + Comma + Quote + (Page Number) + Period
Explain (3-4 sentences)
Don’t just restate the quote. Instead, make inferences and connections. Ask yourself, “SO WHAT?” What lesson or moral does "Hansel and Gretel" teach? How do the Brothers Grimm want people to behave? What does this theme show about human nature or society?
Editing Checklist
I indented the first line of my paragraph using the TAB key.
Every sentence in my paragraph starts with a capital letter.
I capitalized proper nouns like the names of characters.
I do not use any "I" language in my paragraph (no "I think," "I know," etc.).
I properly integrated my quote with a signal phrase and a page number citation.
Example: Max says, "Well, I was a butthead, because like I said, I never had a brain until Freak moved down the street" (4).
I corrected any underlined spelling or grammar errors.
I read my writing aloud to check for fluency.
I had a friend read over my paragraph to help me edit it.
