🗒️ Lesson Plan
Anticipatory Set
Students will list possible themes and thematic statements for "Hansel and Gretel" in their journals. The teacher will provide students a few minutes to write; students will be permitted to share ideas with their peers. The teacher will take attendance as students write. Once sufficient time has been provided, the teacher will invite students to share their ideas and create a list on the board. The class will then review the agenda and objectives.
Developmental Activity
If needed, the class will finish reading "Hansel and Gretel." The teacher will then review the RACE paragraph format. Students will copy the following diagram in their journals to model proper quotation integration.
The teacher will then review the prompt and graphic organizer for the "Hansel and Gretel" Paragraph assignment. The teacher will set the expectation that students complete the graphic organizer first on paper then type a finished paragraph in a doc (to be submitted to the LMS).
Closure
Students will have remaining class time to work on their paragraphs. The following class day will also be provided for students to work.
🧠 Rationale
This lesson assumes prior knowledge of the RACE format from the previous year's instruction. It acts as a refresh and early diagnostic of students' writing abilities.
