ποΈ Lesson Plan
Anticipatory Set
As a bellringer, the teacher will display the assigned groups on the board and have students move to their assigned station. Students should take all their belongings with them. The class will then review the agenda and objectives.
Developmental Activity
The teacher will begin by reviewing expectations for when students are working in groups.
- You are in a group so that you can work together. Help one another out! You donβt have to like these people. You just have to work with them for 40 minutes.
- Control your volume. I should not be able to hear you from across the room.
- Take all your belongings with you and push in your chair when you rotate through the stations.
The teacher will then review directions for the different stations that students will work through today.
- Station 1 - With the teacher's help, you will read an sign off on our class norms. This will help our classroom run smoothly, and you will practice how to submit work to Schoology.
- Station 2 - As a group, you will visit the library. While there, you must be silent so as not to disturb the classes in there. Your task is to pick out a book that you are interested in reading. Politely ask a librarian to check out the book for you, then return to the classroom and start reading!
- Station 3 - You will complete a Schoology Scavenger Hunt. You will need to find and access materials on Schoology, then answer questions based on what you find. All answers must be in complete sentences! When you finish, neatly place your sheet in the white turn-in bin.
The teacher should emphasize that students are responsible if they do not finish these tasks within the class period.
Closure
Students will rotate through the three stations in their groups. The teacher should allot an even division of the remaining time in the period (i.e. if there are 30 minutes left, students will have 10 minutes at each station). A visual timer should be provided on the board to help signal when it is time to move to the next station.
π§ Rationale
This lesson allows the teacher to evaluate students' abilities to work in groups and to manage their time.
βοΈ Modifications
The teacher should station at the Class Norms station to walk students through the norms and discuss what they mean, what their purpose is, what following expectations does and doesn't look like, etc. The teacher will also have the opportunity to walk students through submitting digital submissions at this station.
The Schoology Scavenger Hunt assignment will need to be modified for your specific needs and LMS. I have provided mine as an example.
