Anticipatory Set

For their bellringer, students will share their in-progress graphic organizer from the previous lesson with a partner. The teacher will direct students to specifically check that their peer restated and answered the question and used the proper format for integrating quotations (Signal Phrase + Comma + Quote + (Page Number) + Period). Students should also check for spelling and grammar errors. Students should assist their peers in making corrections.

The teacher will take attendance as students work then circulate to support editing and monitor students' writing to note common issues. The class will then review the agenda and objectives.

Developmental Activity

Students will spend the bulk of their period continuing work on Outsiders Paragraph #1. Once students complete their graphic organizers, they will type up their draft for submission to the LMS; the teacher will explain that the process of typing up handwritten work is an opportunity to proofread and make revisions.

Closure

Before submitting their paragraphs, students should find a partner who has also finished typing up their paragraph and complete the Outsiders Paragraph #1 Peer Editing Checklist. The teacher will circulate to assist students.

βš™οΈ Modifications

The teacher may choose to workshop with all students, time-permitting, or specifically students who struggle with paragraph writing.
